Burns set for surgery
promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that Ricky Burns is to have an operation on a broken jaw sustained in his WBO lightweight title fight against Raymundo Beltran.
The Scot sustained the injury during the second round of his controversial title defense against the Mexican.
For most of the spectators in Glasgow it seemed as if Beltran would claim an easy win after flooring Burns in the eighth round after landing several high-impact left hooks, but they were shocked when the judges scores ended up 115-112, 113-115 and 114-all.
The drawn result means the Coatbridge fighter will keep his belt after a fourth successful title defense.
"With Ricky in hospital -it's not good-clean break to jaw from 2nd round - staying in hospital and operation tomorrow," Hearns tweeted several hours after the fight.
Burns had earlier tweeted: "Jaw defo broken, in agony here.
"Honestly don't know how I managed to get through that fight.
"Thanks to every1 for their support tonight.
